Srikanth, Jwala/Ashwini in quarters, Sindhu ousted from India GPG

TOP SEED Kidambi Srikanth has sealed a spot in the quarter-finals after he defeated Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin from Malaysia in straight games 21-9, 21-12 at the Syed Modi International Badminton Championship held in the BBD Indoor Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in a major upset, third-seeded PV Sindhu was defeated by unseeded Nitchaon Jindapol (Thailand) in a hard fought battle that went the distance but ended in the Thai's favour 18-21, 26-24, 21-17.

Srikanth has had an easy outing in the tournament till now and he will be hoping to continue the form when he will face Goh Soon Huat from Malaysia for the first time.

Fourth seed Kashyap ousted Zhu Siyuan of China 21-19, 21-10 and will face another Chinese Huang Yuxiang, it will be their first meeting. Un-seeded Harsheel Dani caused an upset to the seventh seed Lee Dong Keun of Korea, beating him in straight games 21-15, 21-10. He will now be up against Shi Yuqi of China.

Doubles specialists Jwala Gutta/Ashiwni Ponnappa too had an easy win over Ningshi Hazarika/Harika Veludurthi 21-9, 21-10. They next meet Thai pair Puttita Supajirakul/ Sapsiree Taerattanachai in the quarters.

The men's doubles duo of Akshay Dewalkar/Pranaav Jerry Chopra also defeated 5th seeds Angga Pratama/Ricky Karanada Suwardi (Indonesia) 21-13, 21-14 to set up a clash with the third-seeded Mads Conrad-Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding (Denmark).
