Sindhu clinches second Malaysia Masters GPG title

THIRD SEED PV SINDHU won the Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold after beating Kristy Gilmour of Scotland in straight games in Penang on Sunday. 20-year-old Sindhu was dominant throughout the match. She won the first game 21-15 and won the second 21-19.

The Indian shuttler did not give her opponent any chance of getting back in the match. It was her second Malaysia GPG title after winning the first in 2013.

After winning this match against the Scot, she levelled their head-to-head count at 1-1. This will boost her confidence going into the Syed Modi International Championship starting next week.

"It is a great win and a fantastic start to the season for me. I have been playing well and I was confident of winning ahead of the final," Sindhu told PTI.

"I didn't expect the final to be easy. I had played her long back in 2013 but it was a different match and I am a different player now. I took a lead and didn't relax and it turned out to be a one-sided match. This win has given me a lot of confidence and I hope to do well in the next events," added Sindhu.
