East Bengal rope in Chennaiyin FC defender Bernard Mendy, bolster their bid for I-League title

EAST BENGAL have reportedly finalised a deal with French right back Bernard Mendy to play for them at the I-League 2015-16.

Mendy, a 34 year old defender who has plied his trade at Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain ad Premier League side Hull City in the past, has 4 international caps under his belt. He arrived in India in 2014 to play for Chennaiyin FC in the ISL.

He has been one of the most prominent - and fan favourite - players at Chennaiyin FC. He has made 26 appearances for the franchise over two ISL editions, and scored 3 goals. Apart from his robust, physical defending he earned a lot of praise with his effectiveness in the opponent box during set-pieces. His acrobatic goal from a bicycle kick became one of the most popular moments of the inaugural ISL.

Bernard Mendy's arrival provides a major boost to the East Bengal defence and strengthens their bid to challenge for the title this season. With his arrival, East Bengal have now signed 4 foreign players - the maximum number allowed in I-League - the other three being Do Dong-hyun (South Korea), Ranti Martins and Bello Razaq (both from Nigeria).
