Chennai flood: ATK vs Mumbai postponed, Mumbai team moved to safer location

AN ISL 14TH ROUND encounter between Atletico de Kolkata and Mumbai City FC scheduled to be played tomorrow has been postponed until further notice, sources close to the development said. This has been caused by the Mumbai team being stuck at their hotel in Chennai due to severe flooding in the city, which forced the city's airport to shut down all operations till 6th December.

There were talks of flying the team out in a military aircraft or possibly transporting them to Bangalore by road and fly them from there, but that meant Anelka and his boys would reach Kolkata by tomorrow morning, the very day the match was scheduled. This would put them at severe disadvantage, having gone without practice for days prior to the match.

There is no word yet about whether the match will be rescheduled for later or called off altogether.

The team, however, has been finally moved by road to Tirupati, from where they will travel to Mumbai by flight, and leave for Kolkata tomorrow morning. This increases the chances of the match being held after all, possibly on 7th December which was kept as a reserve day for this fixture. This allows semi-finalists ATK to have at least 4 days to prepare for the playoffs.

This is the first time an ISL match has been disrupted due to natural or any other causes. All matches in the first edition and of this year's games until now have gone on according to schedule.
