Injured Morne Morkel doubtful for 4th ODI against India

AFTER DELIVERING a splendid victory for South Africa with a late burst in the third ODI against India at Rajkot, fast bowler Morne Morkel said he was doubtful about playing the penultimate game in Chennai on October 22.

Morkel, who bagged figures of 4-39, was instrumental in the Proteas' 18-run victory as he removed an in-form Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane in consecutive deliveries. The Indian run chase came to a standstill as Morne's supreme spell left them trailing at 252-6 at the end of 50 overs.

Speaking to media persons, Morkel expressed concern over a sore left leg that troubled him in his sixth over in the third ODI. Going into the 4th ODI at a hot MA Chidambaram Stadium, it will be difficult for players to deal with the conditions, and Morne's absence will only hurt the Proteas further.

South Africa has a top-class medical team and it now depends on whether they are able to get Morne through in the next couple of days. If Morkel misses out, the Proteas will have to consider either Chris Morris or Kyle Abbott as his replacement in the playing XI. The fourth ODI will be played on October 22 in Chennai.
