Khalid Jamil signs for East Bengal as the club pulls physical trainer Garcia from Mohun Bagan

EAST BENGAL HAVE plundered a couple of their closest rivals to come up with a group of coaching staff specifically aimed at winning the I-League.

First off, Khalid Jamil, who just won the top division league with Aizawl FC, made things official by signing on the dotted lines at the Red and Gold club tent. He came to the club yesterday and made things official in the afternoon after a few rounds of meetings with club officials.

When asked why he chose East Bengal, Jamil said,

"I've always liked the brilliant fans East Bengal have had over the years... also, red and yellow are my two favourite colours."

But Jamil's much awaited arrival was not the only big news of the day. Shortly afterwards it was revealed that Mohun Bagan physical trainer Djair Miranda Garcia, who has been known for his dedicated work with the Green and Maroons for some years now, will switch to East Bengal next season. Garcia has been credited for improved player fitness and many speedy recoveries from injuries during his spell with the Mariners.

To strengthen the coaching team East Bengal are also appointing a goalkeeper coach for the first time in a couple of years. Former Indian international keeper Bhaskar Ganguly will be in charge of training the East Bengal custodians next season.

The Red and Golds are on the verge of yet another historic milestone. If they win the next edition of the Calcutta Football League it will be their 8th straight title, a record in the more-than-a-century-old local league's history.

And the club is also trying to end the draught of national league titles that has gone on for 14 years now by putting all their might behind building a team that can win the I-League.
