Indonesia SSP: Prannoy trumps top seed Lee Chong; Srikanth defeats 4th seed Jorgensen

UNSEEDED men's singles shuttlers HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth enjoyed success in their pre-quarter encounters against top seed Lee Chong Wei and 4th seed Jan O Jorgensen at the Indonesia Super Series Premier.

Prannoy toppled Lee in straight games 21-10, 21-18 with some amazing shots that left the top seed in dismay. First game was over in a puff of a second, Prannoy taking it 21-10. It was expected out of Lee that he would bounce back.

The start of the second game indicated the same. But at the interval, the Indian was leading by 3 points. He then ran away with a series of points, where he was leading 16-13 but then the Malaysian came back and the score was levelled at 17-17.

Prannoy looked determined with his shots while Lee misjudged way too many of them. The Indian was the best on court and a deserving win for him helped him enter the quarters. He will next play either 8th seed Chen Long or Jonatan Christie.

Earlier Srikanth fought a three game match 21-15, 20-22, 21-16 to earn his spot against Jorgensen. Srikanth too looked confident with his shots, winning the first game easily. This could have ended in straight games but Jorgensen pushed to the decider.

The final game saw the Indian clinch it quite easily. Srikanth will face Tzu Wei Wang in the quarters.

Saina Nehwal succumbed to defeat at the hands of Nitchaon Jindapol in a three-gmae thriller 15-21, 21-6, 16-21. Before this match, Saina was leading 7-0 against Jindapol but finally the Thai breaks the jinx and gets a win against the Indian.

PV Sindhu too lost her match against Beiwen Zhang 21-15, 12-21, 18-21. Prior to this match, Sindhu was leading in the head-to-head count 3-0 and finally Zhang got the best out of the Indian.
