READ: How Supergiant Sundar got his first name Washington

THE RISING PUNE SUPERGIANT surprised one and all by making it to the IPL-10 finals and much of their success has to be ascribed to how young sensation Washington Sundar has gone about his contributing to Pune's success.

While the U-19 kid has impressed fans and pundits with his calm approach and ability to absorb pressure, many have been baffled with his first name 'Washington'.

Putting several speculations to bed, Washington's father has finally revealed the reason and logic behind his son's name.

Speaking to Hindu, the senior Sundar explained,

"I am a Hindu and come from a very humble family. Two streets away from my home in Triplicane lived an ex-army man called P.D. Washington. He was extremely fond of cricket and would come to watch us play at the Marina ground. He took a liking for my game. I was poor and he would buy uniform for me, pay my school fee, get me books, take me to the ground in his cycle and constantly encourage me."

He further added,

"My wife had a difficult delivery. But the baby survived. As per the Hindu custom, I whispered a God’s name, ‘Srinivasan,’ in his ear. But I decided to name him Washington in memory of the man who had done so much for me. Had I had a second son, I would have called him Washington Jr."

Now that the mystery has been revealed, fans and experts can look forward to the young sensation delivering the goods for Pune in the finals of the IPL on Sunday.
