East Bengal sack assistant coach and goalkeeping coach; may not sign replacements

ALL'S NOT LOST FOR THE RED AND GOLDS in the title race but the coach and officials need to sort things off the pitch for that to happen. And it seems the club has taken the right steps in that direction.

East Bengal FC Secretary Santosh Bhattacharya spoke to Trevor Morgan about the derailment of the title contention with a poor show of results. It is learnt that Assistant Coach Warren Hackett and Goakeeping Coach Abhijit Mondal have been sacked for their performances.

Trevor Morgan at the recent Kolkara derby post-match press conference, said things that did not go down well with the club East Bengal officials. Another topic of discussion was TP Rehenesh. He is one of four keepers in the team and not been keeping too many clean sheets recently and yet was picked in the line up regularly. Mr Bhattacharya also reminded him that they didn’t find any similarity between the Trevor Morgan of old and the Trevor Morgan of now.

Being at the top for quite a while East Bengal seemed to have lost the touch to get to their best when they were at the top. Morgan was also asked why he didn’t field Robin Singh in the derby when he has such a great record in the derbies. It is understood the East Bengal coach answered all the questions with reasoning.

Club Secratary Santosh Bhattacharya shared the gist of the meeting saying,

“We spoke to Trevor Morgan and requested him to try as much as possible in the last three matches to finish the league on a high.”

He added,

“We have a contract with him till the 31st May and at the moment there is no point of parting ways with him.”

Keeping Morgan under the scanner for the remainder of the season Bhattacharya said, “We will certainly keep a track on his coaching performance in the last three games before the Federation Cup begins.”

So Morgan may have to do without an assistant coach and a goalkeeping coach till the season ends.

Debabrata Sarkar said,

“We spoke to the coach and approved him to take necessary step against Willis Plaza for his activity in the Kolkata derby.”
