ONE TEAM THAT HAS TO TRAVEL even for its home matches is Minerva Punjab. They are a club that has its base in Chandigarh but are forced to play in the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana due their own stadium not meeting AFC standards.
As the norms for hosting an I-League match a a stadium must have an average attendance of 500, floodlights installation, bucket seats must also be included and also a roof covered for at least some part of the stadium.
As all these were not fullfilled, Minerva were forced to play their home games at Guru Nanak stadium in Ludhiana. It is said that the new stadium will be equipped and fullfill all criteria of the AFC regulation to be able to host I-League matches. The work of the new stadium in Sector 17 of Chandigarh is expected to be complete at least by early next year.
